As part of Western Carolina Hydrological Research Station (WCHRS), North Carolina Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) scientists, and students and faculty in the Department of Geosciences and Natural Resources at Western are monitoring groundwater in a series of nested groundwater wells to understand stream water and ground water interaction. NCDENR did this work as part of it’s Resource Evaluation Program (REP). The objective is to better understand how rain water recharges the groundwater table, and how groundwater and stream water interact, so that communities can make informed choices about their water resources.
